The Campuhan Ridge Walk is a free stroll along a hilltop ridge through rolling green slopes on the weste edge of Ubud. The path starts by the Pura Gunung Lebah temple at the meeting of two rivers — the word campuhan itself means "where the rivers meet". A paved track runs along a narrow spine between two valleys, and in the mo ing it's one of the calmest, most scenic spots around town.
Why Go
This is a rare free bit of outdoors in Ubud: an easy walk with open views instead of a ticketed park or temple. It suits anyone who wants a mo ing stretch, a sunrise, and photos against green hills and the lone palm tree that has become the local Instagram spot. The path is flat and works even for non-hikers.
The Route
The main stretch follows a paved ridge, and it's hard to get lost.
- Start — from the Pura Gunung Lebah temple by the Campuhan bridge; a short path past the temple leads to the trailhead.
- The ridge — about 1–1.5 km along a narrow spine covered in tall alang-alang grass, with a green valley falling away on each side.
- Beyond — the trail reaches Bangkiang Sidem village, which has cafés and warungs; from here you can tu back or loop on through rice fields back to Ubud.
When to Go
The best time is sunrise and early mo ing: cool, soft light, and almost no one about. There is almost no shade on the ridge, so it's hot by day, and rain often rolls in after noon. Sunset is lovely too, but bear in mind you'll walk back in the dusk.
What to Bring
- Water and sun cover — bring water, a hat and sunscreen: there's nowhere to hide from the sun on the ridge.
- Footwear — the path is paved; trainers or comfortable sandals are fine, though it can be slippery after rain.
- Entry — the walk is free, with no gate or ticket.
- Getting there — about 10–15 minutes on foot from central Ubud to the trailhead by the Campuhan bridge.
