The temple honours Dewi Danu, goddess of water and lakes, who feeds the rice fields of the whole region. Its image appears on the 50,000 rupiah banknote.
Why Visit
It's the island's most recognisable lake temple and one of Bali's most atmospheric spots: mist over the water, cool mountain air and the reflection of tiered pagodas in the lake. It suits everyone, from photographers to anyone wanting a break from the coastal heat.
What You'll See

- In calm weather the pagodas reflect perfectly in the lake — best at sunrise.
- The altitude brings cool air: bring a light layer, mo ings can be misty and fresh.

- There's a paid entrance; the grounds are open in daytime hours.
- The dress code is relaxed, but cover shoulders and knees.
- Bedugul is cooler than the coast — dress warmer, especially in the mo ing.
