Frequently asked questions
Comfortable closed shoes with good grip, a warm layer or windbreaker (it's cold and windy at the top before sunrise), water and a light snack, a head torch or flashlight for the climb in the dark, and a hat and sunscreen for the way back down. Keep your phone or camera in an inside pocket so the cold doesn't drain the battery. Anything else — water for the trail, breakfast at the summit — is usually already included in the programme, so check the details when you book.
Travel medical insurance is strongly recommended: treatment at private clinics is paid up front for foreigners and serious cases can need costly evacuation. Choose a policy with medical cover and emergency evacuation/repatriation. If you plan to rent a scooter, check that motorbike accidents are covered — many policies exclude them, and cover usually applies only if you hold the correct licence. Add adventure cover (volcano trekking, diving) if those are on your itinerary. We don't endorse specific products — compare and choose your own.
Your shoulders and knees must be covered, and a sarong (a length of cloth) is tied around the waist over your clothes with a sash — this is required at every Balinese temple. The sarong and sash are usually handed out at the entrance or included in the tour, so you don't need to buy them separately. Light, breathable clothing works best: a short-sleeved top with long shorts or trousers. By local custom, women who are menstruating are asked not to enter the temple grounds.
It depends: **Tegalalang** is famous and close to Ubud (**15–20 minutes**), good for a quick visit and photos; **Jatiluwih** is vast and quiet, UNESCO-listed, **1.5–2 hours** away, for space and walks.

Classic Kintamani tour. Booked for the whole family, with kids. Comfortable car, driver Alexey drove very safely, the kids didn't get motion sick. Showed us the emerald Tegallalang terraces and an ancient water temple. Very happy!

Private format makes the difference here. We adjusted stop times, stayed longer at the Batur caldera, and did not rush at Toya Devasya. Clean car, AC saved us after the terraces. It felt less like transport between points and more like a proper central Bali day.

If you want photos and big moments, take the Bird Park option. Macaws, toucans, green paths through the park — so lively. After that, the volcano and Tirta Empul feel like a calmer second half. The guide helped us avoid getting stuck in the busiest spots.

I did not expect the hot springs to become more than a bonus, but they were the best part of the day. The guide explained why Lake Batur matters locally, so sitting in warm water by the shore felt different. Very balanced option.

Specifically chose the Toya Devasya option — not a single regret. After a full day on your feet — volcano, terraces, temples — you end in thermal pools right on the shore of Lake Batur. Sunset over the water, mountains all around, warmth rising from below. One of the most peaceful places I've ever been. I'll definitely come back just for the hot springs.
