Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking
Mount Batur (Gunung Batur) is an active volcano in Bali, rising 1,717 meters above sea level. It is located at the center of two massive concentric calderas formed between 23,000 and 30,000 years ago. This ancient volcanic activity created Lake Batur, the largest and most scenic lake in Bali, nesting right at the foot of the mountain. The last eruption occurred in 1999–2000, sending ash plumes 300 meters high.
A night climb to the summit is an unforgettable adventure, physically accessible to any traveler with an average level of physical fitness. The trek takes place under a starry night sky and takes about two hours, bringing you to the summit in time to witness the most breathtaking sunrise on the island.
Key Info Before Your Trek
- Exclusively Private: We have completely excluded shared group tours from our program. This excursion is run exclusively as a private experience. You will enjoy a dedicated comfortable vehicle for hotel transfers and climb the volcano with your personal certified local guide trekking at your own comfortable pace.
- Air Temperature: The temperature at the summit is 10 to 15 degrees Celsius cooler than Bali's usual tropical heat. Be sure to bring a windbreaker, hoodie, or warm layers. You will get warm while hiking, but the cold wind at the summit while waiting for sunrise can feel very strong.
- Equipment: Closed, comfortable athletic shoes with good grip (sneakers or trekking boots) are highly recommended. The descent takes place in daylight along gentle, sandy volcanic slopes.
