Five Hidden Waterfalls of Central Bali
This tour is for travelers who want to see Bali without the crowds. You'll visit five scenic, still-quiet waterfalls in the jungles of Gianyar and Bangli regencies, close to Ubud. In a single day you'll walk through a canyon to a cave waterfall, swim in cool natural pools, and photograph one of the island's most picture-perfect cascades.
Waterfalls on the Route
- Tukad Cepung — the most unusual of the five: hidden inside a narrow rock grotto, where on a clear day, roughly between 9 AM and 1 PM, beams of light pierce the gap above and light up the spray. You reach it by wading along a shallow riverbed.
- Tibumana — a quiet waterfall in Bangli: an even curtain of water about 30 meters high drops into a round, jungle-ringed pool. One of the best spots on the route for a relaxed swim.
- Pengibul — a rare multi-tiered cascade with natural pools that tour groups rarely reach. People come here for the solitude and the silence.
- Goa Rang Reng — a gentle, stepped waterfall where the mountain river spreads wide over dark volcanic rock cloaked in bright green moss ("goa" means "cave").
- Kanto Lampo — a famous fan-shaped waterfall in Gianyar, where the water cascades across a sloping black cliff. It's one of Bali's most photogenic falls — you can climb the rocks right up to the flow.

- All five waterfalls lie in central Bali (Gianyar and Bangli regencies) near Ubud, so the route stays compact and easygoing.
- Whether you can swim depends on the season and the flow — in the dry season the water is calmer and clearer.
- Parts of the trails run through water and over slippery rocks, so bring shoes you don't mind getting wet.

Frequently asked questions
Your shoulders and knees must be covered, and a sarong (a length of cloth) is tied around the waist over your clothes with a sash — this is required at every Balinese temple. The sarong and sash are usually handed out at the entrance or included in the tour, so you don't need to buy them separately. Light, breathable clothing works best: a short-sleeved top with long shorts or trousers. By local custom, women who are menstruating are asked not to enter the temple grounds.
Ubud sits inland, about **60–90 minutes** by car from Denpasar airport and the southern resorts, with almost no public transport. From Kuta, Seminyak or Canggu take a taxi, a transfer or a car with a driver for the day; Grab and Gojek work in Ubud, though some spots have local-driver restrictions.
Ubud is a town and district in the Gianyar regency, known as Bali's cultural center: temples, art museums, craft villages, rice fields and routes into central Bali. It is not a beach resort but a place about culture, nature and a slower rhythm.
The town itself takes about **1 day** — the centre with the palace, market, Monkey Forest and Campuhan ridge is walkable. To see the surrounding rice terraces, temples and waterfalls without rushing, allow **2–3 days**, or come on one or two day trips from the south.
